Multi-pet for Multiple Claws
Once you've been enchanted by the bright eyes of a Bombay or fallen in love with the long bushy tail of a Maine Coon, it's a slippery slope to wanting to own or adopt another purr-fect kitten. If one kitten isn't enough, our multi-kitten insurance policies can help. Our pet insurance for 2 or more kittens works slightly differently from other multi-pet providers.
With Everypaw, your kittens will have their own policies and there are no limits on the number of pets you can insure. So, if you have kittens, puppies, or rabbits, we've got those pets covered - and you'll get a multi-pet discount on every policy, too.
Kitten Insurance FAQs
Everypaw's Kitten Pet Insurance is available from 8 weeks of age. So once you've found the kitten you want and know when you're bringing them home (about 12 weeks according to our Buying a Kitten blog), you can think about protecting them for any illness or injury.
Your home will be a new adventure playground. Your kitten will want to explore their new territory, and sometimes they may not land on their feet. That's why it's best to be prepared.
The cost of kitten insurance comes down to several different factors. The kitten's breed will play a part in the cost and the level of cover you decide to choose.
Where you live also comes into the equation because vet costs vary across the country. So if you want to determine how much kitten insurance will cost, the easiest way is to get a quote today.
Part of being able to find the right kitten insurance policy for you and your new fur baby is unerstanding exactly what's included and excluded. A few of the main exclusions on pet insurance include:
- Treatment for any pre-existing conditions
- Treatment for poisoning or any accidental injury that occurs in the first 3 days of your policy*
- Treatment for any illness that occurs in the first 14 days of your policy*
- Treatment related to vaccine-preventable conditions
- Treatment on baby teeth if your pet is over 16 weeks when your policy starts
*Switching to Everypaw Pet Insurance? If you can prove your previous kitten insurance runs up to the policy start date, we can waive this for you.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of our exclusions. For more information, take a look at our policy document.
Before you collect your new fluffy kitty, it's best to be prepared, so take a look at our top tips for new kitten owners. Your new kitten will no doubt be interested in its new home and want to have a roam around. They'll want to discover everything from their beds to hiding places, so kitten proof your home and make sure there are no hazards within climbing distance.
For the journey home, make sure you have a comfortable carrier and plenty of blankets to keep them snug. They might be nervous after leaving their litter for the first time, so try to create a calm and comfy environment. For your home, stock up on kitty essentials, including a litter tray, scratching posts and other toys to keep them active and engaged.
Your kitten should already have been given their first vaccination. Still, double-check they've definitely had it before you take them home. To avoid them catching anything before they're completely vaccinated, avoid letting them run around outside and ensure they only meet fully vaccinated dogs and cats.
Our kitten insurance does not cover the cost of vaccinations and boosters. Plus, if your vet recommends a vaccination and you decide against it, you won't be covered if your kitten then falls ill with a condition that could've been prevented by that vaccine.
Your kitten might be tiny now, but they'll grow up fast! They'll need plenty of food to help them develop into a fearsome feline. By the time you fetch your kitten, they should be completely weaned from their mother and trying out solid foods instead.
To avoid upsetting their stomachs as they settle into your home, keep them on the same food the breeder gave them. With all the proper nutrients for a healthy cat, specialist kitten formula will be purr-fect for your fluff ball.
As they grow, the amount you feed your kitten will change. Follow this formula to make sure you're not under or over-feeding them:
- After your kitten is weaned, feed them four small meals a day
- At around three to four months, reduce to three meals
- At around six months, you can drop their meals to just two a day
- When they reach 12 months old, you can swap to adult cat food
Take a look at our guide to feeding kittens for more information about what to feed your new best friend, including how often to feed them and potential problems you may face.
Kitten teeth and teething issues are a big part of them growing up. That's why we offer insurance for your kitten that covers the cost of dental treatment up to your vet fee limit.
It can cover treatment for a dental condition related condition, illness or accidental injury. However, you must have a history of annual check-ups (or as recommended by your vet) and proof that any vet advice given was followed within 6 months.
Treatment related to baby teeth, if they are over 16 weeks at the policy start date, will not be covered.
Your kitten is always learning, and these early stages will help shape them and their personalities, so start socialising them when they're young. You obviously want your kitten and cat to become friends, and with other pets too.
Try to keep every experience positive and create a calm, relaxed environment when they meet new friends. Make yours a confident kitty and introduce them to other pets and humans, including kids, from an early age. The more they know about the world, the less they're likely to be spooked or surprised by anything they encounter.
You can really start training your kitten at around 12 weeks. Learning how to be a good feline can really take it out of your fluffy friend. So keep training sessions short and fun, and remember to reward good behaviour with playtime or treats. If they're a little naughty, don't sweat it. Simply ignore them. This is a better way to handle any mischief, as punishment might confuse them.
As of 10th June 2024, its is a legal requirement to have your kitten microchipped by the time it is 20 weeks old. Not doing so could result in a fine up to £500.
Microchipping your cat is a simple process done by your vet and usually costs between £10 and £30, but this is not covered by our insurance for kittens.
Kittens are clever and can easily be trained to go inside when nature calls. Although they prefer to do their business outside, they'll happily go in a litter tray too. Some kittens might already know to visit the tray by the time you pick them up, but if not, you can use these simple tips to help start the process of toilet training your kitten:
- Add a little of their older litter to the fresh when cleaning the tray – a familiar scent helps them know where to do their business
- Make sure the litter tray isn't too high – your kitten needs easy access when it's time to go
- Try a bunch of different types of litter if your kitty is having trouble; they have preferences and don't like any strong-scented cleaning products either
If you toilet train your kitten but notice that they suddenly start peeing around the house, it could be a sign of stress and separation anxiety, or an underlying medical issue. Learn more about how to stop cats peeing in the house.
