Frequently Asked Questions
Taking out insurance for dogs is not a legal requirement in the same way that, say, a car insurance policy is. It can offer you that all-important peace of mind, though. Data from the Association of British Insurers (ABI) tells us that, in 2022, there were an average of 3,600 new claims made every day to treat cats and dogs.
And while we all hope you and your dog are never included among that number, the cost of veterinary treatment means that your premium can feel like a small price to pay to know that your pet is protected.
Everypaw's insurance for dogs can cover your pet as soon as they turn 8 weeks old, and as soon as they're insured, we'll start looking after them. You can find out more about our Puppy Insurance here.
Straight away, you'll have access to our 24/7 vet service, Petcall. So if you need dog care advice, training tips and more, our UK-based vet nurses and vets are just a phone call or web chat away. It doesn't stop there on day 1 either; once you've received your Welcome Pack, you can register for the Pet Portal, the go-to hub for managing everything about your dog's policy.
After a 3-day waiting period, your dog will be covered for any new accidents they get themselves into. And after 14 days, then your pet will be covered for any new illnesses, and the full range of policy benefits will come into effect.
Insurance for dogs can help cover the costs or contribute towards them if your pet suffers health problems, an injury or illness and requires treatment. When you need support towards treatment, vet bills, surgery, any medication or further complementary treatment your vet has prescribed, Everypaw can be there for you.
The level of coverage you choose across our Lifetime Pet Insurance for dogs indicates much you have to spend on vet fees per year. A Lifetime policy covers new conditions up to your annually renewable vet fees pot which you can dip into when you need.
Like other insurance providers, Everypaw does not cover pre-existing conditions.
The cost of insuring your dog depends on several different things. According to the ABI, the average annual pet insurance premium in 2022 was £327 but this figure is only to be taken as a very rough guide. The final price of your dog insurance will vary from breed to breed and will take into consideration your dog's age and even where you live. We take all that information and consider other factors before we give you a quote.
If the cost of insurance for your dog is a key factor in your decision, get some quotes across the 6 different levels of cover. This little comparison will give you a cost breakdown and you'll be able to see what's affordable and best for you and your pet. We're not saying go cheap or go expensive; think about what suits your buddy and their needs.
As your dog gets older, the cost of your premium will go up, so it's worth bearing this in mind. In some cases, they can go up significantly – it's just a reality when it comes to insurance for older dogs. Switching providers later down the line may seem like a good deal but, remember, it's unlikely a new provider will cover any pre-existing conditions.
Once you've got your dog insurance quote and you're happy to get started with your cover, you can choose to pay in one of two ways. You can pay up front for the whole year in one go or spread out the cost via monthly instalments. With some providers, paying monthly means your dog insurance will cost more overall – but that's not the case with Everypaw.
No; our pet insurance for dogs will not cover the cost of any vaccinations or boosters your pet needs. And our policies won't cover any treatment for conditions that could have been prevented by having your dog vaccinated on your vet's recommendation.
Even the best-behaved dogs can sometimes cause a bit of chaos – often through sheer excitement and exuberance as much as anything else! But this unpredictability means we are unable to offer cover for chewed sofas, breakages or any other form of damage to your home caused by your dog.
If your dog does cause injury someone or damages their property, for most breeds of dog we can cover you for Third Party Liability.
From 1st July 2024, we do not cover the following dog breeds, or any dog crossbred with any of these breeds for Third Party Liability: Akita, Cirneco dell'Etna, Dogue de Bordeaux, Japanese Akita, Korean Jindo, Mexican Hairless, Neapolitan Mastiff, Northern Inuit/Eskimo Dog, Portuguese Podengo, Seguguio Italiano, Shar Pei and Utonagan.
If you bought a policy before 1st July 2024, Akitas, Japanese Akitas and Neapolitan Mastiffs, and crossbreeds of these dogs, are not covered for Third Party Liability.
Yes; our insurance for dogs covers the cost of dental treatment as long as you can prove a history of annual check-ups and that the treatment is to relieve suffering due to illness.
It is a legal requirement that all dogs over 8 weeks must be microchipped and it's important to note that any claim will be rejected if you have not done this. Microchipping is a relatively simple process that your vet will be able to take care of and it typically costs in the region of £15, although your Everypaw Dog Insurance won't cover this fee.
Yes. If your dog is stolen or goes missing, we will repay the price you paid for your pet if they are not found or recovered within 30 days. If you do not have proof of payment, we will repay the amount you stated when you first took out your policy, or the market value – whichever is lower. Please note that your dog insurance will not cover you if your pet goes missing within 14 days of your policy start date unless you can prove your previous policy ended as soon as your Everypaw policy begins.
Our dog insurance is all about the Lifetime but, with the range of cover levels to choose from, it can be tricky to find the best for your pet. And deciding which one is best is entirely up to you. We can't make any recommendations; all we can do is show off our products and let you find the cover level that suits your dog. Every dog and every pet owner is different, so what would be right for one wouldn't necessarily be right for another.
Put it into perspective; look at your dog, look into their adorable eyes and think about the best cover for them. Firstly, it needs to look after their needs as they age. Think about their breed, medical history and how the cover would work if they were to suffer an illness or injury and compare all the levels and the vet fees for treatment covered.
Once you have that sorted, think about your pocket; what's affordable to you? Don't jump for the cheapest dog insurance straight away. It could save you a few quid a month but could end up with you paying out to cover all the costs. Lower limits can be spent quickly in a year, leaving you waiting for your vet fees to renew before you can claim again.
Put all that together and you should be on the right path to finding the best pet insurance for your dog and you.
When you take out your dog insurance policy, you need to enter the PETPERKS code in the promo code box. This can be found in the promo code section on the 'Your Details' page, under 'Discounts'. Apply the code and then continue to take out your policy as normal.
After 3 months of your policy start date, we'll email you the instructions to redeem your Pet Hamper from the Pet Hamper website.
