Pet Insurance Claims

How to Make a Claim

We hope your furry friend is OK, we know this can be a hard time for you and your pet, so we want to let you know we're here for you every step of the way.

There are two ways you can make a claim. The quickest and easiest way is through the Everypaw Pet Portal. Submitting through the Portal comes with some added perks too. Not only will we automatically send your claim directly to your vet, but we’ll also chase them for you if we haven’t heard back.

If you’re not registered for the Portal, you can submit a paper claim, but this is much slower. You’ll need to deliver the claim to your vet, and then you’re reliant on them posting the completed form to us.

To help when it comes to submitting your claim, we've created a guide on How to Make a Pet Insurance Claim. Just click the button below to find out how you can submit new vet fee claims, continuation claims and medication claims.

98% is a bold statement, but it’s true, we’ve got the data to back it up. We pay 98% of claims in 5 days!

Claim through the Pet Portal

Registered for the Everypaw Pet Portal? Then you can make your vet fee claims for new and continuation claims in the Portal. It’s quick and easy. And once you’ve submitted your claim, you’ll be able to track its progress with our online claims tracker.

The Portal is also home to the forms you need to claim for your policy’s additional benefits.

Log in and head to the Claims section. There you can complete and submit your online claim form. Once you’ve submitted it, we’ll automatically email it to your vet and look to get your claim covered ASAP.

It was really easy to make a claim

“It was really easy to make a claim through pet portal & there weren’t any issues with any of the process. Everypaw did all the chasing with the vet so I didn’t have to.” – Genuine customer review by KJ on the 29th February 2024

If You’re Not Registered for the Pet Portal

If you've chosen not to register for the Portal, that's fine, you can still make a claim. But be prepared, this can take longer than submitting your claim online.

Download the form from the section below, follow the instructions and pass it on to your vet for them to do their part. Once your vet sends it back to us, the team aim to get to work on new claims within 5 days of them landing in our post room.

While your vet has the form, we can’t do any chasing on your behalf. So if you haven’t heard anything from us, you might need to give them a nudge.

If you have any questions about a specific section of the form - or about what receipts you need to send with it, get on the dog and bone to Everypaw HQ. If we get everything we need all in one go, it means we can get your claim sorted as quickly as possible.

If you need to make another type of claim, please call 0344 543 1009, and we'll send you the claim form you need.

For Third Party Liability claims, please refer to the guidance in your policy documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

For Third Party Liability claims, you can submit your claim immediately.

For other types of claims, including vet fee claims, there are some waiting periods.

  • Accidents/Poisoning: After 3 days you can make a new claim. However, it cannot be for an incident that happened in those first 3 days
  • Illnesses: After 14 days you can make a new claim. However, it cannot be for an illness that your pet suffered in those first 14 days

If you've switched to Everypaw from another insurance provider, and can prove your previous policy ran up to your new policy, we will waive the 3-day and 14-day exclusions for you.

The 14-day restriction is also in place when it comes to claims relating to the policy benefits such as Finding your Pet and Your Hospitalisation and Boarding Fees etc. Please read our policy document for full details.

Be aware pre-existing conditions are not covered. Incidents that happen in the first 3 days and illnesses in the first 14 days would be considered pre-existing conditions.

You'll need to pay an excess when you claim vet fees, and the frequency and amount you'll need to pay will depend on your policy.

  • For Lifetime policies, your excess is payable per condition, per year
  • For Maximum Benefit and Time Limited policies, your excess is payable per condition

The amount you will need to pay will depend on the excess options available to you when you bought your policy. Your excess will be either:

  •  The set excess on your policy
  •  The set excess on your policy or a percentage of your claim amount, whichever is more
  •  The set excess plus voluntary % excess

You'll find your excess on your Certificate of Insurance and in the Pet Portal.

A voluntary % excess is a percentage amount that you can choose alongside a set excess to adjust the price of your premium. Selecting a higher voluntary % excess may reduce your premium, but you will pay more in excess if you need to make a claim.

Once you have selected your excess options and bought a policy you won't be able to lower your excess.

Your excess may change at the renewal after your pet reaches the upper ages of their policy, the upper ages of our policies are:

  • Cats: 10
  • Most dog breeds: 8
  • Some dog breeds and crossbreeds: 5
  • Rabbits: 5

For all policy types bought before 13th March 2024, your excess changes will be as follows:

  • Cats: at the renewal after their 10th birthday their excess will change to their set excess or 25% of the claim, whichever is more
  • Most dogs: at the renewal after their 8th birthday their excess will change to their set excess or 25% of the claim, whichever is more
  • Some dog breeds and crossbreeds of these breeds (listed below): at the renewal after their 5th birthday their excess will change to their set excess or 25% of the claim, whichever is more
  • Rabbits: at the renewal after their 5th birthday their excess will change to their set excess or 15% of the claim, whichever is more

Beauceron, Bernese Mountain Dog, Bulldog, Bullmastiff, Deerhound, Dogue de Bordeaux, Estrela Mountain Dog, Giant Schnauzer, Great Dane, Irish Wolfhound, Leonberger, Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, Newfoundland, Old English Bulldog, Old English Sheepdog, Poodle (Standard), Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Rottweiler, Shar Pei, St Bernard, Tibetan Mastiff, Utonagan.

For policies bought on or after 13th March 2024, at the renewal after your pet reaches the upper ages, excess will be as follows:

  • For cat and dog policies with only a set excess, it would be your set excess plus 25% of the claim amount
  • For policies with a set excess and a voluntary % excess of 25% or less, it would be your set excess plus 25% of the claim amount
  • For policies with a set excess and a voluntary % excess of 30%, your excess will remain the same
  • For rabbit policies, your excess will be the set excess plus 15% of the claim amount

You'll find your excess on your Certificate of Insurance and in the Pet Portal. We will inform you in advance of any excess changes in your renewal documents.

As soon as you've submitted your vet fees claim in the Portal you can track its progress with the Claims Tracker. If you downloaded and completed your form by hand, your claim won't appear in the Claims Tracker until we've received and processed it.

We'll also keep your Portal's Messages section up to speed with your claim's updates, and if you're signed up for SMS, we'll text you too. If you chose to receive all your bits and pieces by post, you can expect your updates through your letterbox.

Yes, you can submit continuation claims with our online vet fee claim form in the Everypaw Portal. Just select Continuation claim on the form, add a few claim details, and we'll get that straight to your vet.

If you're submitting a paper claim form, you just need to tell your vet to make sure they tick the box to tell us it's a continuation of a previous claim.

Within 5 days of getting your claim form, we'll be on to it. In most cases and where there are no further queries, we aim to make payment within 5 days of assessing your claim.

This is never an easy subject, and can be hard to understand why what you think would be a routine claim would then be declined.

After close consultation with our Claims Team, we can tell you the most common reasons for a claim to be declined is because of either a pre-existing medical condition or the condition suffered was within the policy’s initial waiting period of 3 days (accidents/poisoning) and 14 days (illnesses).

You can read more about pre-existing conditions here.

We want to get your claim sorted as soon as possible; unfortunately, now and again, there are bumps in the road. Delays can happen, and these are generally down to when we need more information to process your claim, from your vet, for example. When things like this happen, we really do appreciate your patience.

If you haven't registered for the Portal but want to, it's easy; all you need is:

  • The email address you took out the policy with
  • The policy number (this is optional)
  • Postcode on your policy
  • Your date of birth
