Pet Insurance Claims

We hope your furry friend is OK, we know this can be a hard time for you and your pet, so we want to let you know we're here for you every step of the way.

How to Make a Claim

We hope your furry friend is OK. We know this can be a hard time for you and your pet, so we want to let you know we’re here for you every step of the way.

There are three ways you can make a claim. The quickest and easiest way is to leave it all to your vet to submit the claim through Vet Pawtal. Vet Pawtal makes claims swift, easy and effortless, so you can spend more time looking after your furry patient.

You can still submit claims through the Everypaw Pet Portal, but this isn’t as easy as leaving it to your vet. Or, if you prefer, you can submit a paper claim form, but that can be slow and time-consuming.

To help submit your claim, we’ve created a guide on How to Make a Pet Insurance Claim. Click the button below to find out how to submit new vet fees, continuation, and medication claims.

Claim through Vet Pawtal

Vet Pawtal is our online claims platform for vets that makes the claims quicker, easier and hassle-free for you. It streamlines everything from submitting claims to payment processing for faster results and much less paperwork... well, none, in fact!

All you need to do is leave everything to your vet, and as soon as they’ve submitted the claim, Vet Pawtal pings you a text and an email to tell you it’s on its way. Plus, you can keep track of everything (once it’s been submitted) with the Pet Portal’s claims tracker.

You might find some vets haven’t signed up for Vet Pawtal yet. If so, you can submit claims through the Pet Portal.

Claim through the Pet Portal

Registered for the Everypaw Pet Portal? Then you can make your vet fee claims for new and continuation claims in the Portal. It’s quick and easy. And once you’ve submitted your claim, you’ll be able to track its progress with our online claims tracker.

The Portal is also home to the forms you need to claim for your policy’s additional benefits.

Log in and head to the Claims section. There, you can complete and submit your online claim form. Once you’ve submitted it, we’ll automatically email it to your vet and look to get your claim covered.

Great Company

“Being a new customer to Everypaw, i find that my dog became unwell, the vet advised scans and so on. I contact the insurance and they was fantastic. They dealt directly with the vet so didn't need to worry about costs. They covered all the vets bills. I would highly recommend them to anyone.” – Genuine customer review by S Elwell on the 3rd August 2025

If You’re Not Registered for the Pet Portal

If your vet’s not one for Vet Pawtal and you prefer not to register for the Portal, that’s fine. You can still make a claim. Remember that paper claim forms will take longer to submit and process.

Download the form from the section below, follow the instructions, and pass it on to your vet so they can do their part. Once your vet sends it back to us, the team aims to work on new claims within 5 days of them landing in our post room.

While your vet has the form, we can’t do any chasing on your behalf. So, if you haven’t heard anything from us, you might need to give them a nudge.

If you have any questions about a specific section of the form or what receipts you need to send with it, get on the dog and bone to Everypaw HQ. If we get everything we need all in one go, we can get your claim sorted as quickly as possible.

If you need to make another type of claim, please call 0344 543 1009, and we'll send you the claim form you need.

For Third Party Liability claims, please refer to the guidance in your policy documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Vet Pawtal is our new claims portal designed to make claims quick, easy and effortless so you can spend more time looking after your furry patient. You don’t need to lift a finger.

With Vet Pawtal, your vet submits claims directly to us, eliminating all the stress and hassle. And we’ll keep you in the loop every step of the way.

We can pay either you or the vet directly. If you’ve already paid for treatment, your vet can select that we pay you. We’ll pay the claim to the account linked to your Direct Debit.

Alternatively, if it’s been agreed with the vet; we can pay them instead.

Vet Pawtal covers lots of vets across the UK, so hopefully, yours will be one of them. If you’re not sure, you can ask your vet.

No, we can’t do pre-authorisations through Vet Pawtal now. It is something we’re working on, though.

For pre-authorisations, call us on 0344 543 1009.

You can submit your claim immediately for third party liability claims.

There are some waiting periods for other types of claims, including vet fee claims.

  • Accidents/Poisoning: After 3 days, you can make a new claim. However, it cannot be for an incident that happened in those first 3 days

  • Illnesses: After 14 days, you can make a new claim. However, it cannot be for an illness that your pet suffered in those first 14 days

If you’ve switched to Everypaw from another insurance provider, we can cover your pet immediately without these exclusion periods. You just need to prove your previous cover ran up to your new cover start date, so we know there wasn’t a gap in the cover.

The 14-day restriction is also in place when it comes to claims relating to the policy benefits, such as finding your pet and emergency boarding fees, etc. Please read our policy document for full details.

Be aware pre-existing conditions are not covered. Incidents in the first 3 days and illnesses in the first 14 days would be considered pre-existing conditions.

You'll need to pay an excess when you claim vet fees, and the frequency and amount you'll need to pay will depend on your policy.

  • For Lifetime policies, your excess is payable per condition, per year
  • For Maximum Benefit and Time Limited policies, your excess is payable per condition
  • For policies with + percentage excess, the percentage excess is payable per claim

The amount you will need to pay will depend on the excess options available to you when you bought your policy. Your excess will be either:

  •  The set excess on your policy
  •  The set excess on your policy or a percentage of your claim amount, whichever is more
  •  The set excess and + percentage excess

You'll find your excess on your Certificate of Insurance and in the Pet Portal.

The + percentage excess is a percentage amount that you can choose alongside a set excess to adjust the price of your premium. For older pet insurance policies, + percentage excess is automatically applied to your policy.

Selecting a higher + percentage excess may reduce your premium, but you will pay more in excess if you need to make a claim.

Once you have selected your excess options and bought a policy you won't be able to lower your excess.

Your excess may change at the renewal after your pet reaches a certain age:

  • Cats: 10
  • Most dog breeds: 8
  • Some dog breeds and crossbreeds: 5
  • Rabbits: 5

For all policy types bought before 13th March 2024, your excess changes will be as follows:

  • Cats: at the renewal after their 10th birthday their excess will change to their set excess or 25% of the claim, whichever is more
  • Most dogs: at the renewal after their 8th birthday their excess will change to their set excess or 25% of the claim, whichever is more
  • Some dog breeds and crossbreeds of these breeds (listed below): at the renewal after their 5th birthday their excess will change to their set excess or 25% of the claim, whichever is more
  • Rabbits: at the renewal after their 5th birthday their excess will change to their set excess or 15% of the claim, whichever is more

Beauceron, Bernese Mountain Dog, Bulldog, Bullmastiff, Deerhound, Dogue de Bordeaux, Estrela Mountain Dog, Giant Schnauzer, Great Dane, Irish Wolfhound, Leonberger, Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff, Newfoundland, Old English Bulldog, Old English Sheepdog, Poodle (Standard), Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Rottweiler, Shar Pei, St Bernard, Tibetan Mastiff, Utonagan.

For policies bought on or after 13th March 2024, at the renewal after your pet reaches the upper ages, your excess will be as follows:

  • For cat and dog policies with only a set excess, it would be your set excess plus 25% of the claim amount
  • For policies with a set excess and a percentage excess of 25% or less, it would be your set excess plus 25% of the claim amount
  • For policies with a set excess and a percentage excess of 30%, your excess will remain the same
  • For rabbit policies, your excess will be the set excess plus 15% of the claim amount

For policies bought for older pets after 29th July 2025, your excess will remain the same as your set excess and your + percentage excess.

You'll find your excess on your Certificate of Insurance and in the Pet Portal. We will inform you in advance of any excess changes in your renewal documents.

Once your vet fees claim has been submitted, you can track its progress in the Portal’s claims tracker. If you downloaded and completed your form by hand, your claim won’t appear in the tracker until we receive and process it.

Once your vet’s submitted your claim on Vet Pawtal, we’ll send you a text and an email. We’ll also keep your Portal’s Messages section up to speed with your claim’s updates.

If you submitted the claim yourself via the Pet Portal or with a paper claim form, and you chose to receive all your bits and pieces by post, you can expect your updates through your letterbox. The Vet Pawtal claims process can be quick; your claim may be settled by the time a letter comes through, so we need to email or text you.

Yes, continuation claims can be submitted by your vet in Vet Pawtal.

However, if your pet has received additional treatment related to the condition, e.g. physiotherapy, you’ll need to submit the claim using our online vet fee claim form in the Everypaw Portal.

If you originally submitted the claim in the Pet Portal, you can select continuation claim on the Portal’s claim form, add a few claim details, and we’ll get that straight on it.

If you’re submitting a paper claim form, you just need to tell your vet to make sure they tick the box to tell us it’s a continuation of a previous claim.

We’ll be on to it within 5 days of getting your claim form. In most cases and where there are no further queries, we aim to make payment within 5 days of assessing your claim.

This is never an easy subject, and it can be hard to understand why what you think would be a routine claim would then be declined.

After close consultation with our Claims Team, we can tell you the most common reasons for a claim to be declined is because of either a pre-existing medical condition or the condition suffered was within the policy’s initial waiting period of 3 days (accidents/poisoning) and 14 days (illnesses).

We want to get your claim sorted as soon as possible; unfortunately, now and again, there are bumps in the road. Delays can happen, and these are generally down to when we need more information to process your claim, from your vet, for example. When things like this happen, we really do appreciate your patience.

Registering for the Pet Portal is easy; we can do it for you when you take out a policy.  All you need to do is set your password when you review your quote.

If you haven't already registered for the portal, it's easy, just visit the portal and click the Register for the Everypaw Pet Portal link. Enter your email address and we'll send you an email to confirm your account. Simply follow the instructions in the email to verify and register for the Pet Portal.

If the email doesn't land in your inbox, you should check your spam folder just in case.
